Weekend News Roundup - NBC Downloads, iTunes Digital Copies, And Mac Blu-ray Support

Below are a few stories which we didn’t get a chance to cover throughout this past week.

[Hollywood Reporter] NBC reported that since it’s return to iTunes that more than 1 million downloads for NBC TV properties have been tallied. Of course how many of those 1 million downloads were of the free variety we probably won’t know. I for one feel like I attempted 900,000 downloads of Battlestar Galactica before I was able to pull down the HD version.

[The Unofficial Apple Weblog] TUAW reported on how one of their readers who purchased a DVD copy of the just released Speed Racer, which was supposed to contain an iTunes Digital Copy, found out that the digital copy was not in fact compatible with a Mac or iPod devices at all. If your planning on buying one of these discs for the digital copy, watch out.

[MacRumors] MacRumors reported on Friday that we could get Blu-ray support in the next update to OS X, specifically version 10.5.6. MacRumors is referring back to one of the rumors from Kevin Rose, and his infamous iPod predictions, where he states that Blu-ray support is coming. If this is true and we should expect Blu-ray support in the near future, what does this mean for the Apple TV? Will we see Blu-ray support built into a future version of Apple TV? If you can buy a MacMini with a Blu-ray drive, is there still incentive to buy an Apple TV, or has Apple invested too much in it’s iTunes ecosystem to movie over to Blu-ray completely. Time will tell.

the problem with the digital copies is the codes are not activated fast enough. Had same issue with all 3 bluray movies I got with digital copies. Juno, Rambo, and Street Kings took over a week…. But I eventually got them all.
