Rumor! Apple TV Update Coming Soon?
Anyone who has been following this site knows that we usually aren’t the ones starting rumors, were usually the ones jumping on them, but this particular little nugget I found myself, so I thought why not post about it.
I happened to be visiting my local, brand new, Apple Store this past Monday in San Diego. It’s our fifth in the San Diego Area and it had just opened up on the previous Saturday. Being the Apple TV Junkie that I am I always tend to go and click through the Apple TV on display in any Apple Store I visit. Two things were different this time at this particular Apple Store. First off, it seemed as though the content was actually up to date on this particular Apple TV on display. Visiting other local Apple Stores and clicking through the movie menu usually brings up older titles such as Transformers or Ratatouille. I’d often wondered why the software was never updated to reflect the current selection of movies. But this particular Apple TV showed all of the titles currently available. Second, as you can see in the picture above, there was a message at the top of the screen stating that an Apple TV update was available.
Now, there could be a few reasons why this message was there, with the most obvious being that for whatever reason the employees at this Apple Store had not finished updating the Apple TV software. All though it’s interesting to note that under the “Photos” menu selection, it said MobileMe not .Mac. If I remember correctly the MobileMe update came with the last known update. Someone please correct me if I am wrong on this.
Either way, the image above is something to ponder as all of us Apple TV users wait for Apple to flip the switch on allowing us to purchase HD TV Shows, in addition to other ground braking functionality they might have up their sleeve for their little hobby that could.

It’s funny that you say that because that was my first instinct. I started to work through the menus but I was soon surrounded by a few of the Apple employees so I backed off. And of course I didn’t think to asked them why that message was there. I’m new to this sneaking stuff, I’ll get it done next time!
It would make sense for an update to come soon so it ‘plays nice’ with iTunes 8 and the new content. If only to fix the duplicate HD TV show listings, and to give all the HD content the cool little HD logo it deserves
lame excuse for a “rumor.” be more careful getting our hopes up teasing useless, baseless stories on here. Lame.

why didn’t you try to update it for them?
