Could HD Content Be Coming To The iTunes Store?
Update! - Could Kevin Rose have answered my iTunes HD TV Show Dreams? Head on over to his site to read about what’s new in iTunes 8!
[theaftermac.com] Chris Marsden over at the site The After Mac is speculating that HD content could be coming to the iTunes Store. As we all know HD content has been available to Apple TV users since late February of this year. Marsden points to a recently released new decoder that is visually lossless and provides uncompressed HD quality at SD data rates, which he claims means HD quality in a smaller file size, eliminating one of the biggest obstacles to why there isn’t HD content in the iTunes Store to date. I am the least educated person in the way of video decoders, but if this speculation has the smallest chance of being true, this could pave the way for not only HD Movies but HD TV Shows as well. Anyone in the know have any thoughts on this new decoder theory?

Dear Apple

Dear Apple,
I understand that Apple TV is just a “Hobby” of yours, and that means it falls down low on the list of priorities, especially when your having your issues with those little things called MobileMe and iPhone 3G. But don’t you think its time you gave a little attention, at the very least, to the Apple TV Rentals page on your site? Yeah I know, the studios control what movies are or not available, but some of these movies haven’t been available to rent for months. Come on Apple, I have faith that you haven’t forgotten Apple TV, and that someday you may pull it out of the “Hobby” bin and give it the attention it deserves.
Sincerely,
Apple TV Junkie

Control Apple TV Rented Movies With Remote.app
I discovered something this weekend as I was watching the HD version of The Matrix Reloaded, something I had not seen published before. It’s possible to control titles rented from Apple TV with the Remote.app. All though the rented title does not show up under Movies, once you start playing the rented movie, controls for Play, Rewind, Fast Forward, and Rewind appear as if it was a purchased title.
On a side note, The Matrix Reloaded is one of the best encoded HD movies I’ve seen on the Apple TV. If your looking for a movie to show off to your friends, keep The Matrix Reloaded in mind.
Robotech: The Macross Saga Now Available
Allow me to endulge in a little bit of 80’s nostalgia. One of my favorite 80’s cartoons is now available for purchase in the iTunes Store/Apple TV, Robotech: The Macross Saga. I think it’s fair to say that this cartoon series was one of the more influencial manga style cartoons to come out of the 80’s. I look forward to the 2nd and 3rd series of the Robotech trilogy. Now if this Apple announcment on the 9th would mean HD TV Shows I would be set!
