Netflix Streaming Service Suffering From Movie Licensing Issues…Apple TV Users Feel Your Pain

Apparently Apple TV isn’t the only media box having issues keeping movies listed on a consistent basis, all though I don’t believe that Apple TV has ever suffered from a complete studio outage. According to CNET, Netflix had issues with getting a licensing deal done with Sony which resulted in movies being pulled from Xbox’s Netflix streaming service and other distribution partners. A Netflix spokesman did say that titles “come in and out of licensing all the time”. This is the first real confirmation of why we see movies disappear from Apple TV from time to time, something we had been speculating about on our ATVJ podcast over the last few weeks. Welcome to the digital party oh great and powerful Netflix.

As a side note: ignoring the part about Sony being a little bitch, HD Netflix streaming on the 360 is just really awesome.

As I’ve said before, even though Apple is right about not needing one for music, they *do* need a video subscription model for movies and TV. Because right now this is a huge advantage for the 360.

I agree - I’m struggling with disk space issues caused mainly by The Daily Show and The Colbert Report. I paid for it so I can’t bring myself to delete it; I know I’ll never watch the episodes again though. Apple please please please! delete them for me and charge me 50% of the current cost! PLEASE!
