Software Update Now Available For The Apple TV

Update 2 – As CHASH mentions in our comments, it appears as though Apple has added a Network Test under Settings>General>Network. This test sends information about your internet connection to Apple in order to help improve download performance.

Update – Not a whole lot to report on the update other then the version number is confirmed at 2.3.1. I find it strange that there are no visible changes to the Apple TV software and that Apple has not updated the Apple TV support page with what was included in the update. I do sense that there could be more coming with this update then we realize, or that could be wishful thinking.

A software update is now available for the Apple TV tonight, we are currently downloading and will report back once the update is complete. There is no word from Apple yet on what the update contains. Apparently it is version 2.3.1.

I recently rented Wolverine in HD. The movie froze several times, forcing me to restart the download. (I think the error code was 3285). I went to the discussion boards and saw that others had been experiencing the same problem. I wonder if this update is merely an attempt to better diagnose the issue (and perhaps keep a check on carriers who might try to reduce throughput from their servers while Net Neutrality works itself out).
