Apple TV Ver.2.2 Update Available!
Hi All, I am writing this post as I download an Apple TV update. The update is taking about 2 minutes and I will post as I know more. So head on over to your Apple TV’s and update that software. Hopefully this will be bringing our long awaited HD TV purchases.
Update - I’m reading over at MacRumors that there was also an iTunes Update to 8.0.1.
Update 2 - It looks like we got our HD TV purchases with tonight’s update along with some changes to the Settings menu. There are now options for AirTunes and Standby. Standby seems to put the Apple TV to sleep. Screen shots to come!
Update 3 - The Unofficial Apple Weblog is reporting that this was officially a Security Update. They are also reporting that this update brings the Genius feature to Apple TV. More features in this update include Music Video playlists and On-the-Go Playlists.
Update 4 - Here is a link to an Apple Support page with a description of all changes.

In the settings menu/Audio&Video, there is now ADVANCED settings for subtitles, closed captions and audio language…. and many languages can be selected… perhaps movies will come to even more countries…
I think this indicates that options similar to dvds is now coming to iTunes and Apple TV, where people can select between languages and subtitles.
Perhaps an anouncment of this will come on oct 14th. Perhaps Apple have made new deals with the movie companies around the world!
One can only hope

I noticed that ATV now also spports buying passes.
Does anybody know if my iTunes passes will/can be transferred to my ATV?
Or do I have to complete these on iTunes and sync them to my ATV?

I think we are not too far away to have extra features with our rentals now. (Like we do now get with DVDs). With the 2.2 update and the expanded menu feature I can see it coming…

One thing I’ve found that I don’t like about 2.2…when it syncs with iTunes, after playing a video podcast, it brings up a dialog box saying so, and blocks you from interacting with the Apple TV.

Its the small things that they are always improving that impress me the most…
1. Now when you are playing music the song continues playing no matter where you are on the interface until you select a new item. Previously the song would cut out even if you were just browsing your own movies/tv shows
2. Pressing and holding the play button during a video brings up a simple chapter/scene selection window.
3. Pressing up twice during a video overlays a semi-transparent info window with information about the playing video.

Meh, I really wanted grid view on tha AppleTV. IMO the current Front Row-style browsing is a leftover from AppleTV 1.0 and needs to go.

I’m currently running ver 2.1 and would like to know if updating to 2.2 will ‘break’ the ATV Flash hack?

Same “reboot loop” problem here, after updating earlier this afternoon, put on standby, came home tonight and tried to use but got endlessly repeating loops of just the apple logo, flashing every 10 seconds or so. Apple support thread linked to above has dozens (Hundreds?) of complaints similar. Seems to be a major problem w/ the update - BEWARE.

Hi, not denying your having problems. But I have a 1.0 40 GB Apple TV and it updated and works fine. So while I sympathise with your problems, I just wanted to say it is working for some, even on an original 1.0 device.
