Yes, while the SD fans get titles such as Cloverfield, Charlie Wilson’s War and Walk Hard, the HD crowd have to settle for Cheaper by the Dozen, Police Academy 3, Cliffhanger and Moliere.
Apple, why not just tell us to buy a Blu-Ray player and get it over with? Am I missing something here? If I am going to be forced to purchase a movie at $14.99 a pop, why am I going to settle on watching it in Standard Definition on my High Def TV when I can purchase the Blu-Ray version for practically the same price? I’m wanting to believe you want to do the best for us Apple TV users Apple but come on.

If you look carefully at the image above you will notice two things. One, There Will Be Blood is indeed available through Apple TV, but two, even though the title is “Purchase Only” it is still falling under “Viewers Also Rented”. Now either Apple didn’t think those whole purchase thing all the way through, the ability to find “Purchase Only” movies will not remain, or these titles will become Rentable soon. What do you think?
These are just a few of the Premier Titles I have found tonight sifting through Apple’s new purchase option on Apple TV. So for everyone keeping score we now have Rental only titles, Rental and Purchase titles and Purchase only titles. No doubt other purchase only titles showing up in the iTunes Store tonight like Cloverfield and Aliens vs. Predator:Requiem will find their way onto Apple TV. For me, there is one small problem with these additions, not one of these titles are in HD! HD titles only come as Rental Only and HD titles are what I want to see!
Don’t get me wrong. It’s nice that Apple is releasing these titles pretty much in parody with the DVD release, but for me, HD is where it’s at. It’s why bought an Apple TV and why I started this site.
Now, by virtue of Apple adding all of these Purchase Only titles into the mix and mudding the water as far as “Titles Available” on Apple TV, this pretty much guarantees that this site will no longer catalog all movies available on Apple TV. All rentals….maybe. But at this point there are to many variations to cover. What this site will continue to do is track down every last HD title which becomes available to rent. Thats where this site started and thats where this site will continue it’s focus.
All though we’ve seen this option come and go before, if anyone remembers the big dump, it seems to be legitimate this time. And as of this post, it doesn’t come with a big dump of movies, and not every movie has the option to buy. So, at least for the time being, enjoy your purchases.
We want to give credit to Matrix6028 for the heads up.
A few more movies to add to the every growing list, including one new release HD title.

On a side note. Beginning today all new additions to the movie list will be added to the top of the list. This should make it easiest to find the just added titles.

Despite Apple and it’s mini dump of Short Films, Independent Films and Documentaries, our first priority here will be about posting new HD titles.
Honestly I’m still trying to decide wether or not to even count Short Films as part of the greater “Total Rental Count”.
What do you all think? Should Short Films be part of the main “Total Rental Count” number?
